Kendrick Lamar Gifts Fans With New Track ‘Jig Is Up’ Feat. J. Cole
Kendrick Lamar is still keeping busy despite having the No. 1 rap album this week with ‘good kid, m.A.A.d City.’ To thank his fans for their support, the Compton rapper released a fiery new track called ‘Jig Is Up (Dump’n)’ featuring J. Cole.
The song, which was produced by J. Cole and Canei Finch, features K-Dot taking shots (doot-doot-doot-doot!) at his detractors and vowing to remain humble despite his newfound success that is coming his way.
“I pray to God this beat is good enough for Shyne / If not J. Cole, your shit is traaash,” he raps alluding to Shyne’s recent critical tweet that ‘good city’ is garbage. “But at least my opinion just made everyone laugh / This is where we at? / I guess it’s entertainment / I guess this is speculation making a classic came with / If I ain’t have the patience I’d probably self-destruct / Real people want real music, the jig is up.”
True, indeed. Evidence of that is the recent sales numbers for ‘good kid, m.A.A.D city.’ The album pushed 241,000 copies in its first week of release. This achievement earns Lamar the title of the biggest-selling debut artist of 2012. Last year, J. Cole had the best-selling week for a debut artist with his first album ‘Cole World: the Sideline Story,’ which moved 218,000 units. So it’s only right that K-Dot and Hollywood Cole team up for a song.
The jig is up — Kendrick Lamar is making history.
