Planning to travel this Memorial Day weekend? Join the crowd. Literally. High gas prices aren't going to keep us from getting to where we want to go, at least not according to AAA who says an estimated 43 million Americans will travel this coming weekend.

According to AAA, there will be 3.6 percent more people traveling for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend than there were during the 2018 Memorial Day weekend. As a matter of fact, AAA is thinking that more people will travel this weekend than have in more than a dozen years.

If you're planning to hit the road this weekend, you might want to keep this in mind: INRIX is a global transportation company which specializes in transportation analytics and they say that traffic jams on major roads could be up to three times longer than they usually are. The heaviest days for travel are expected to be this Thursday, May 23rd, and Friday, May 24th.

The majority of people traveling will do so by vehicle, a staggering 37.6 million people. Over three million people are expected to travel by plane, and 1.9 million people will get to their destination via train, bus, or cruise ship.

Paula Twidale is the vice president of AAA Travel and she says, “Americans are eagerly anticipating the start of summer, and expensive gas prices won’t keep them home this Memorial Day weekend. Consumer spending remains strong, helped by solid job and income growth. Families continue to prioritize spending their disposable incomes on travel, and near-record numbers of them are looking forward to doing just that for Memorial Day.
