New York state comptroller Thomas DiNapoli says over 56,000 accounts in Broome County are sitting with $21,108,176 in unclaimed funds.

The Democrat’s office has been holding community events around the state to look for people who forgot about money, much of which is in the form of unclaimed bank accounts, un-cashed checks, insurance claims and utility deposits.

DiNapoli says some money has been sitting, forgotten, since the 1940s.

You can check to see if you have funds coming to you by call 1-800-221-9311 or going to the online claiming system at https://ouf.osc.state.ny.us/ouf/?wicket-crypt=v7_xpdHmLrU.

DiNapoli says his office returns over $1.5 million a day to the rightful owners.
