Food poisoning is nothing to mess around with. Nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, fever, chills, headache...these are just some of the lesser side effects. And what's one of the biggest things that can lead to this nightmare?

Salmonella.

Salmonella is a bacteria that lives in the intestines of humans, animals, and birds. According to the Mayo Clinic, "Most people are infected with salmonella by eating foods that have been contaminated by feces."

So is it possible to get salmonella from eggs? Yes. The Mayo Clinic explains, "While an egg's shell may seem to be a perfect barrier to contamination, some infected chickens produce eggs that contain salmonella before the shell is even formed."

Now that we've got a handle on what salmonella is and how awful it can be, you should know that more than 200 million eggs are being voluntarily recalled because of the possibility they've been contaminated with salmonella.

Rose Acre Farms of Seymour, Indiana has issued the voluntary recall, saying that the eggs were sold under the brand names Country Daybreak; Crystal Farms; Coburn Farms; Sunshine Farms; Glenview; Great Value; as well as in Walmart and Food Lion stores.

The potentially contaminated eggs were sold in several states, including New York and Pennsylvania. According to Food Safety News, this recall, the largest egg recall since 2010, involves eggs with the plant number P-1065, with the Julian date range of 011 through 102 printed on either side of the carton or package.

According to the Food and Drug Administration, 22 illnesses have been reported so far. So if you've purchased eggs involved in the recall, do not consume them. Instead, return them to the store where you bought them for a full refund.
