I don’t know about you but it takes a lot for me to get motivated to workout.

EdiPulse, at Exertion Games Lab in Australia, has combined the “wearables” trend with 3D printing in order to produce visible workout rewards. The EdiPulse uses a heart rate monitor to track your beats per minute while you’re working out, and send the information through to a mobile app to a 3D food printer. The harder you work, the more chocolate comes out and the thicker your chocolate bar becomes.

In order to determine the amount of chocolate layers printed, heart rates are divided into four zones: very light activity, light activity, moderate activity, and hard activity. Each zone is associated with a specified amount of chocolate.

Each activity zone also corresponds with a different emoticon. Maintaining a steady workout in the hard activity zone rewards you with a much-deserved giant smile or a cheerful message written in chocolate. But if you stay in the very light zone, you’ll get a frown.

The intention behind EdiPulse is to encourage exercisers through a tangible final product. But DON’T WORRY the developers kept in mind the calories and sugar content and measured out the chocolate dosage so eating the reward won’t negate your workout.
