According to Ben George at Candystore.com, using consumer data spanning the last 15 years, when it comes to New Yorkers' favorite candy nothing beats Sour Patch Kids. So if you still haven't bought your Halloween candy, now you know which one will make you the most popular house on the block. Hot Tamales and Candy Corn finished second and third respectively.

On a national level, Sour Patch Kids finished sixth behind Reece's Cups, Skittles, M&M's, Starbursts, and Hot Tamales.

Now personally, I love Sour Patch Kids. But it's far from my favorite candy. That honor goes to the mighty Kit Kat bar. When I was a kid, my grandpa had a seemingly endless supply of mini Kit Kat bars on him at all times. And every time we got to see him, Kit Kat bars rained from the sky. Even total strangers would get a complimentary Kit Kat bar for no apparent reason other than my grandpa trying to be nice.

As far as I can tell, there are no Kit Kats in any state's top three which is an extreme disappointment to me. But Sour Patch Kids are still a top tier candy that deserves the nationwide recognition that they're getting. And even though Candy Corn finished at third in New York, I still think it's a criminally underrated candy that's synonymous with Halloween season.
