9 Reasons Why Parents Bribe Their Kids
I would say every parent bribes their children at some point. I can remember potty training Caleb and every time he went on his "big boy potty" he got a Hot Wheels car. That was a bribe for sure! I still continue the bribes even now that he is 16-years-old!
What do you bribe your children with and why do you bribe them?
According to a new survey, 94% of parents bribe their kids to make them behave. I would have thought the number would have been 100% but 94% is pretty close to 100%!
Here are the top 9 reasons why:
1. For finishing their chores. 66% of parents said they reward them for it in some way.
2. 60% say for getting good grades.
3. 48% say for being good when you bring them shopping.
4. 44% say for potty training. (Hot Wheels!)
5. 31% say for eating everything on their plate.
6. 28% say for finishing their homework.
7. 18% say to make them stop crying.
8. 18% say to make them stop fighting with their siblings.
9. 8% say to get them to smile for a photo.
The survey also asked people what they bribe their children with and the number one answer was an "experience", like a trip to the zoo. Number two was something sweet, like a cookie, followed by toys, more TV time, a later bedtime, and money.
Do you bribe your children? What do you bribe them to do? And what is the reward you usually offer?
