Fire boats are pressed into service as the flooding overnight July 23 resulted in the evacuation of dozens of residents, including several in Vestal Center as Choconut Creek rapidly rose and spilled over its banks.

Town of Vestal and Broome County officials say in spite of the evacuations and several rescues of motorists in flooded underpasses, there were no injuries.

The Southern Tier Chapter of the American Red Cross has been helping displaced residents, including providing cleaning supplies.

Some elected officials and residents say they are tired of continued flooding issues but environmental regulators will not let municipalities change the infrastructure of water ways.
