After seeing our friends take to social media to post photos and videos of their kids heading off to school and college, my husband and I were joking in a tongue-in-cheek way about what it'll be like when our son goes to school for the first time.

Jay said that I'll probably fall to the ground, crying, and hold on to John's ankles, begging him to take me with him. I said that on John's first day of school, I'll probably follow the bus in my car and sit outside the school, bawling, for the entire day.

I know it's going to be hard for me to let my little man go off and grow up, especially when it comes to him going away to college, so part of me understands this, but then the part of me that happens to be extremely anti-helicopter parenting finds this ridiculous.

Most college freshmen are stoked to break free from the restraints of their parents, but some kids in China have found that they need a little extra time to cut the cord. Or...maybe it's the other way around and the parents are the ones who need a little extra time to let their little bird fly from the nest.

Universities in China have actually set up tents for parents of students so that mom and dad can stick around during the move-in period and the first week of classes to make sure their student is managing just fine.

The tents are free for parents to sleep in and include access to hot water and showers.
