Parking Garage Demolition Closes Binghamton Streets
The Collier Street parking garage in downtown Binghamton has sat empty since November of 2015 when it was permanently closed after being deemed unsafe and now, after months of waiting, the eyesore is ready to be torn down.
With the demolition will come street closures in downtown Binghamton. According to a press release from the Office of the Mayor, the street closures will go into effect today, July 20th and are expected to remain in place for roughly two weeks.
The following street closures could affect your downtown travel, so please plan accordingly:
Collier Street- Collier Street will be completely closed for the entire duration of this project. However, the sidewalk from Court Street to Hawley Street will remain open.
Hawley Street- The westbound lane will be open to local traffic only from Exchange Street to State Street. A detour will be posted for other traffic, leading you from Exchange Street to Susquehanna Street to State Street. The eastbound lane of Hawley Street will remain open the whole time.
State Street- The northbound lane of State Street will be closed from Hawley Street to Court Street. Vehicles will be detoured via Hawley Street to Court Street. The southbound lane and parking spaces will remain open. For those who travel by foot, the sidewalk will be closed from Hawley Street to the Grand Royale Hotel.
