Officials with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation say the Keystone State already has some areas that have gotten snow, so it's not too early to think about the upcoming season.

PennDOT says this year, the over 2,200 state-owned and rented plow trucks will be equipped with ATV technology.  That means the public can view the trucks on interstates and expressways this winter at www.511PA.com.

The program was started in 2014 with 119 plow trucks and expanded to 700 trucks last winter.

Plow trucks are also equipped with another high-tech feature: computerized salt spreaders that allow operators to calibrate the exact amount of salt to be distributed regardless of the speed of the truck.

PennDOT also provides information about winter roads with a special page on its website: www.penndot.gov.  The information is also available at the 11 PennDOT engineering districts.
