The business is to be built next to the Quality Inn and Comfort Inn hotels on Route 434 in Apalachin.

Rajumaanar Enterprises plans to operate the new restaurant, which will be located just west of the Blue Dolphin Restaurant.

Company president Beth Ann Smith said work on the site could start by late August. She hopes the restaurant will be open by early next year.

Smith said the new restaurant will be open 24 hours a day. She noted there are few options nearby for people interested in getting a meal late at night or early in the morning.

The Town of Owego planning board has given its approval to the 4,800-square-foot Perkins project.

Smith said as many as 100 people may initially be hired for the restaurant. She said the final staffing level likely will be between 50 to 60 people. Hiring is expected to start next month.

The site of the future Perkins Restaurant is just east of Route 17's Apalachin exit.

Smith said her company is exploring potential sites for additional Perkins operations in the region.
