Police Lab to Study Evidence from Binghamton House Fire
Samples from the scene of a fire on Binghamton's West Side are being sent to a state police lab to be analyzed.
The blaze in a two-story residence at 43 Schubert Street was reported just before 6:30 Monday morning. It was discovered by a passerby.
Authorities say the fire was brought under control within 25 minutes. There were no injuries.
Captain Tim O'Neill with the fire marshal's office said the house had been occupied by eight adults and five children prior to the blaze. But they recently moved elsewhere in the city.
O'Neill said the fire caused significant damage to the home's kitchen. He said there was smoke and water damage throughout the building.
O'Neill said the former residents had been in the house in recent days to remove some items.
Fire investigators will be working with Binghamton police detectives in the effort to determine what caused the fire.
O'Neill said evidence from the house will be examined by state police investigators. He said the fire appeared to have originated on the first floor near the kitchen.
