There could be a lot of people late for work in Chenango County today.

New York State Electric and Gas is looking into the cause of a big power outage in Chenango County early this morning.

Emergency Services officials say the power went out to residents primarily in Norwich, Oxford and Preston a little after 3, possibly as a result of a problem with some NYSEG substation or other equipment.

NYSEG said at around 4 that over 18-hundred customers were without power.

According to the utility’s website, power was expected to be back on by 7 a-m.

NYSEG officials were not available to comment on what caused the power interruption and Emergency Services officials say they were only advised that crews were working on the problem.
