Construction crews are making final preparations to tear down the iconic Ken Wilson car dealership showroom on Route 434 in Vestal.

The historic structure has been part of the Vestal Parkway landscape for 52 years.

Thousands of Chevrolets and other vehicles were sold over several decades at the dealership.

An informal gathering was held on the site last September, giving people a chance to share memories of the unique building that was noted for what's been called a "stylish geometric concrete roof."

Asbestos remediation work now is underway and the demolition of the building is expected to occur next week.

The new development on the site will include a standalone Chili's Bar and Grill. There also will be a Red Robin Gourmet Burgers restaurant and offices for Aspen Dental.
