John Solak first discussed his proposal to rename all or part of the street on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program last month.

After that, he submitted a formal request for legislation to City Council. The New York Post gave the idea some attention in a short story on Sunday.

Solak said he is willing to pay for the signs that would officially designate "Donald Trump Street." He said it wouldn't be a big expense to install the signage.

Solak believes it's important to honor Trump, who is the first New York native to become president in decades. He noted Trump repeatedly referenced the dismal economic conditions facing Upstate New York during his successful campaign.

Referring to a statement made by Trump during the campaign, Solak said: "What have you got to lose?"

Solak said once councilmember who had heard his initial suggestion on the radio program indicated he believed he had made an "excellent case" for renaming the street.

Since then, there has been no apparent movement on the proposed honor for the nation's 45th president.
