Dating is one tricky obstacle to navigate. If you've been with someone for a while, but you don't know if you want to keep seeing them, Bustle says that there are some questions that you should ask yourself first before you decide to break up with them.

  • Have I been criticized, degraded or disrespected on a consistent basis in this relationship?  If you're answering yes, or you can name a few instances where this is the case, then you might want to voice your concerns and consider leaving your partner. No person should feel anything less than an equal to their romantic partner.
  • Do I want them holding my hand on my death bed? If you don't see yourself being with them long term (or want to be with them for a long time), then there may be underlying issues that need to be addressed, or if they can't be fixed then a break-up may be inevitable for you both.
  • What am I missing? Is there something fundamentally missing from your relationship that you believe someone else can fulfill for you? If you think that you can find someone more compatible for you, and this isn't anything that can be fixed with more communication, then perhaps it is best to let them go.

Relationships have a life of their own, and figuring out whether you and your partner have what it takes to weather the storm and make it long term can be difficult. Asking yourself these kinds of questions can help you feel better about your decision whether or not to break-up.
