Local Republicans are basking in the victory of the Grand Old Party in a large number of races, including Mayor campaigns in Binghamton and Johnson City, Broome County Clerk, Johnson City Trustees and Town of Union Council as well as Binghamton Town Clerk and Justice races in Dickinson and Town of Union.

Republican Joseph Mihalko, whose campaign was the target of a negative mailing days before the vote, has apparently defeated Democrat Dan Livingston for Broome County Clerk.

In Vestal, Democrats Suzanne Messina and John Fletcher are the apparent winners of seats on the Town council.

Incumbent Owego Town Supervisor, Republican Donald Castellucci Junior has apparently easily won another term.

Results must be certified by the Board of Elections.

Broome County Republican Chairman Bijoy Datta issued a statement saying “Even though there are thousands more registered Democrat voters than Republicans in Broome County, Republicans won 25 out of 32 seats up for election”, and points to the strength of the GOP.
