I don't know what it is about the milk in Canada, but it's absolutely delicious and I'm not much of a milk drinker. I brought a small bag of milk back with me after my vacation in Ontario this summer to share with people at work, and it was a huge hit.

In Canada, most milk is sold in recyclable bags and you can either pour it into a pitcher or buy a special milk bag pitcher. I asked my Canadian friends what the deal was with bagged milk and they told me that it goes bad less frequently, takes up less space in the fridge and pours less awkwardly than in a jug or carton.

It looks like the United States could be headed the way of bagged milk, literally- like foods bagged in milk, not the actual liquid milk.

The United States Department of Agriculture has developed what they say is an "environmentally friendly food packaging" and it's made of milk.

The packaging is made of the milk protein known as casein and is supposedly 500 times better at keeping oxygen away from food than plastic which would help the food keep longer, and then, when the food is gone, you can eat the wrapper.

The researchers say that they're testing this product on things like individually wrapped cheese sticks.  I know the thought behind it is great, but I just can't get past the fact that I'd be eating a wrapper that who knows how many hands has touched.
