A normal summer day seemingly came to a halt because of shocking news in the entertainment industry. Robin Williams, 63, died this morning (Aug. 11) because of a suspected suicide from asphyxia. He was found unresponsive in his Tiburon, Calif., home.

The actor and comedian was battling depression, according to a statement released by his publicist. The rep wouldn't confirm if the death was due to suicide.

"This is a tragic and sudden loss," the statement said. "The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.”

Williams was known as one of the industry's most beloved personalities. He gradually made his name in stand-up in the early '80s before breaking out into key roles in drama and comedy. His most iconic roles include John Keating in 1989's 'Dead Poets Society,' Peter Pan in 1991's 'Hook,' Genie in 1992's 'Aladdin,' the eponymous character in 1993's 'Mrs. Doubtfire' and his Oscar-winning performance as Sean MaGuire in 1997's 'Good Will Hunting.' This is only a fraction of his work.

He was one of the few comedians to be just as convincing in dramatic roles as he was in comedy. Williams' best characters were never really caricatures, but they were played with a human element. It was as if the drama and humor came from the same place.

Williams is survived by his wife and three children.

The length and depth of his career has touched many from various professions and walks of life. Here are a few from the hip-hop and R&B world.
