Ah, the holiday season. Giving gifts can be seriously stressful around this time of year, which has led many people to re-gifting. Giving somebody a gift that was once given to you is something almost every body does (or wants to do), but rarely admits to.

Here at Wild104, we believe in re-gifting, so here are some rules that you should definitely take into consideration before re-packaging that picture frame or gift basket.

1. Expiration Dates

Speaking of gift baskets, always check the expiration date before you re-gift! Those cookie or popcorn tins that you haven’t touched in a year may not be so good anymore. The last thing you want to do is give somebody a gift that gets them sick -- talk about the gift that keeps on giving – Yikes!

2. Remember Who Gave You The Original Gift

Sure, the Christmas season is the time to give back, but giving someone a gift they already gave you? Not ideal. Make sure you remember who gave you the gift you’re about to give away, that way you avoid hurting someone’s feelings! Also, keep your groups of people (friends, family, work, etc.) separate! If your mother gave you that scented candle, don’t give it to your aunt – bring it to work for your assistant instead!

3. Always Re-wrap

We understand you’re trying to save money, but always buy a new gift bag or wrapping paper. This way, you avoid giving a gift with a name tag that says, “Love, Dad” while also making the gift look like it hasn’t been sitting around for a year (or more!). The person you’re giving it to doesn’t know you’re re-gifting – make it presentable!

4. Make Sure It Makes Sense

Giving a gift is supposed to be a very personal thing. Make sure you are re-gifting gifts that are going to be appreciated by the recipient- otherwise it looks as if you didn’t try. If you have an item that simply can’t be re-gifted because NOBODY will want it, simply give it away! (DaveRamsey.com)

5. You CANNOT Re-gift Something Already Used

This should go without saying, but just in case! It doesn’t matter if you only watched that DVD once, if it has been used, it cannot be re-gifted. If you really don’t want it, give it to a friend or local charity, but wrapping it up and claiming that you bought it like that? Not okay.

Now, let’s just hope you don’t get that not-so-great bottle of wine back that you gave away last year!
