Meet John, my two-year-old cat:

You're probably like, "wait, what?" Let me explain- my toddler is convinced that he's a cat. He likes to meow and licks people, and he's happy to spend hours sitting on his bedroom floor looking at any of his blocks and books that have a cat anywhere on them. John's favorite word is "cat" and he says it no less than 500 times a day.

My husband and I have no idea where John's love of cats came from because we don't have a cat, and as far as we can remember, John hasn't even seen a cat in person in the two years that he's been alive.

If you're a cat lover like my little boy is, but it feels like your cat doesn't love you back, you need to hear this: cats really do like people.

Believe it or not, cats are the anti-social animals that everyone thinks them to be. As a matter of fact, researchers from Oregon State University have found that cats genuinely do enjoy interacting with humans, even if they seem disinterested at times.

The researchers came to this conclusion through a test in which cats were given things to react within these categories: human social interaction, food, toy, and scent. And the cats went to social interaction first and food second.

So, the next time that you think your cat wants food over play and cuddle time, remember this!
