I don't know how I would feel if my partner told me that he didn't think that I was "the One". Imagine being a placeholder for your partner until they come across the real deal. How would that feel? Bustle has come up with a few ways to (unfortunately) tell if that's you.

  • Refusing to talk about future plans can be a major warning sign, especially if the future is only the immediate weekend coming up.
  • You're a rebound, so if your partner just got out a long-term relationship before dating you, they could just very well be looking for a void to fill and you happen to fit into the side of the bed his ex once did.
  • You haven't met his friends and family yet even though you've been dating for some time. If he was really that into you, he'd want to show you off to everyone else that he loves, too.
  • You don't have serious discussions, like if you don't know his political leanings at all, then chances are you're just a placeholder, and he's not really wanting to open up to you at all.

We all find ourselves in situations at one point or another when one person has more feelings than the other. If you think you're just someone's placeholder, and you don't want that, discuss it with them, or, better yet, end it because you deserve better.
