October 2 is the day Southern Tier residents have a chance to weigh in on legalizing marijuana for recreational use in New York State.

A “Listening Session” will be held in Conference Room COE01105 at Binghamton University.  Doors open at 5:30 p.m.  People wanting to attend should register online (at ny.gov/regulated-marijuana/regulated-marijuana-listening-sessions#listening-sessions).

Supporters say legalizing and regulating recreational marijuana will result in millions of dollars in licensing and other revenue for the state.  Opponents cite health and addiction concerns.

The State has planned several Listening Sessions around New York State.

Following Tuesday’s session in Broome County, a hearing is to be held Wednesday, October 3 at the Holiday Inn at the Buffalo International Airport, Thursday, October 4 in Rochester, October 9th in Syracuse and October 10 in Utica.  The final meetings are scheduled for Watertown, and Suffolk and Westchester.
