Southern Tier Gets Eco-Friendly Tick Control

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo says the Southern Tier is among regions in the state that will be seeing environmentally sensitive measures to control tick infestation on public lands in an effort to combat diseases transmitted by the insects.

The Associated Press reports the Capital Region and Hudson Valley are also getting the treatments on public land.

Another step in the fight against Lyme Disease and other illnesses carried and spread by ticks is continuing on Long Island and some other areas of the state where deer feeding stations are set up.  The deer are treated for ticks as they stop to feed at the stations.

Hunters, hikers and anglers are also to be provided information on how to prevent exposure to ticks while the New York State Department of Health is working with the private sector on new medical testing to detect tick-borne diseases.
