The Greater Binghamton area has little to show from strong thunderstorms that swept through the area May 15, quickly dropping large hail on the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania and parts of Delaware County and the Hudson Valley.

Some areas to the south and east of Broome County also reported suspected tornadoes.

Associated Press reports an 11-year-old Orange County, New York girl was killed when a tree toppled onto the car she was in as a line of strong storms moved through the mid Hudson Valley area.

Police in Newburg say the girl and her mother had arrived home and were unloading the car when wind knocked the tree onto the vehicle.

The girl was pulled from the car and taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. The mother suffered minor injuries.

States of emergencies were declared in Putnam, Dutchess, Orange and Sullivan counties, which were hit by strong winds and marble-sized hail.

Possible tornadoes were sighted and more 130,000 customers lost power late Tuesday.

The Greater Binghamton area saw little storm damage while some areas of Northeast Pennsylvania reported large hail and tree limbs down.

There were no reports of injuries in the Twin Tiers as a result of the weather.
