A series of thunderstorms with locally heavy rains began sweeping through the area early this (Monday) evening.  Forecasters predicted that some storms would likely develop and be scattered around the area.

Some areas have been hit with strong, gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall with ponding of water along and onto roadways. There have been scattered power outages due to these storms.

As of 9:00 P.M. NYSEG reported the following power outages around the area:

435 customers without power in Tioga County; Tompkins County reporting 713 customers without power; Chenango County with 152 outages and Broome with 17 outages.

The National Weather Service forecast calls for more showers and thunderstorms tapering off overnight.  Extreme heat and humidity levels are expected to continue through the July 4th holiday with the chance of more showers and thunderstorms each day.
