The oldest of seven, I grew up in a household where mom ruled with a loving, but iron fist. Breakfast before school wasn't an option- it was mandatory and if one of us was hit with a sudden dose of defiance and told our mom we didn't want to eat before leaving for school, it wasn't pretty.

I can't even tell you how many mornings I sucked down a meal and how often I felt sick to my stomach walking to school. I'm not a breakfast person and I've never been a breakfast person. I like breakfast foods, but I don't like to eat for several hours after I've woken up.

Now, I've got a little boy who also isn't a breakfast fan. And, instead of pushing the issue and forcing him to eat, I just give him extra at lunch and you know what? I have zero guilt about not making my son eat breakfast. When he's hungry, he'll eat.

If you're not a breakfast lover, and if you're trying to drop some of the extra weight you've been carrying around, I've got some news that should make you happy.

According to researchers at Columbia University, breakfast isn't the most important meal of the day if you're trying to lose weight. Yes, there's plenty of research that saying starting the day off with a meal will help with weight loss, but the researchers at Columbia University discovered something pretty interesting- overweight people who skipped breakfast in the study that they conducted were actually the only ones to lose weight.

So, take it for what it's worth, but don't feel guilt skipping breakfast if breakfast isn't your thing.
