Suspects Sought After Shots Fired Near Binghamton High School

Police are seeking the men involved in a shooting incident that prompted a lockdown at Binghamton High School.

Authorities say a 911 caller reported multiple gunshots on Murray Street around 11:21 a.m. Thursday.

The area is just west of the high school, so a lockdown was ordered as a precaution.

Investigators say there had been a disturbance involving a group of men near 101 Murray Street just before several shots were heard.

Police were unable to find anyone who had been injured and they discovered no damage.

Detectives say the man who was targeted in the shooting fled in a vehicle or on foot.

The suspects being sought were described as "younger black males."

Murray Street between Main Street and Seminary Avenue was closed for a couple of hours while investigators worked in the area.

There had been concern the shooting may have been linked to a reported menacing incident involving guns near the high school on Wednesday afternoon.

Police late Thursday said they had no evidence the gunshots were related to any school or student.
