Suspicious Package Found Near Endicott Propane Tanks

The Endicott Police Department bomb squad was sent to a convenience store after a worker discovered a "suspicious" item in the parking lot.

Authorities say the package was found next to propane tanks at the Runway Food Mart at 431 East Main Street.

Police were called around 1:30 p.m. Friday when an employee of the business spotted the item.

The store is located at the heavily-traveled intersection of East Main Street and Vestal Avenue.

Yellow police tape was placed in front of the business and across Vestal Avenue on the north side of the intersection.

Police Chief Patrick Garey said although there was no known threat, the bomb squad was utilized "out of an abundance of caution."

Garey said the package was moved to the parking lot of the former Endicott Plaza "where the device was disabled." He said no explosives were found.

The chief said New York State Police and the FBI were assisting Endicott investigators looking "into the circumstances of why the package was placed where it was."
