Killer David Sweat has been wounded and captured.  Sweat was spotted shortly after 3:00 p.m. June 28 by  New York State Police Sergeant Jay Cook who saw him walking along a road in Constable, NY located within two miles of the Canadian border.  According to police reports the sergeant ordered Sweat to freeze but he ran away with the trooper giving pursuit.

During the chase the sergeant fired at Sweat hitting him twice in the upper torso.  Sweat survived and was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his wounds.  He was  transported to Albany Medical Center's trauma unit.  At an evening press conference Governor Andrew Cuomo said Sweat was in stable condition. He has since been reported in critical condition.

Police officials say Sweat was not armed at the time of his apprehension.  No injuries were reported to any police officers or members of the public.

Sweat and Richard Matt, both convicted murderers, escaped from the Clinton Correctional Facility on June 6th sparking a massive manhunt.  Matt was shot and killed by authorities on June 26 not far from where Sweat was found.  Sweat was serving a life without parole sentence for the murder of Broome County Sheriff's Deputy Kevin Tarsia.
