This is what this week's letter writer has to say:

My neighbor has a very large apple tree, and the apples spill out through the fence onto the sidewalk. Once or twice a week I'll pocket a few of the apples to eat or use while I'm cooking. Someone saw me do it the other day and yelled at me. I don't see what the big deal is. Am I 'stealing' this fruit from my neighbor? Should I ask her first?

Well if they are falling off the tree and onto the sidewalk, I really don't see what the big deal is. BUT I think the kind and neighborly thing to do , is to go talk to her, or better yet wait till you see her outside and strike up a conversation. Just simply say you were out walking one day and noticed one of the apples fell off the tree...you picked it up and tasted it and was amazed at how yummy they were. Then say I hope you don't mind...and take it from there!
