This is a topic that we often talk about and people have lots of different opinions on. When going on a date who should pay, the man or the woman? What are the expectations?

Check out what the statistics say as far as what people think on this matter.

  • 70% of men think they should always pay for a date, even if it wasn't a good time.
  • 48% of women always expect a man to pay on a date.
  • However only 1% of men, and 0% of women, think that the woman should always be paying on a date.

This is just my opinion, but when going on a date I would usually expect the man to pay. I'm just very old-fashioned in that way and like men who think in that old-fashioned, gentlemanly way.

However, there are exceptions on when I would pay for a date. I certainly wouldn't expect my date to pay for dinner if we went out for his birthday, that would be my treat. Also, if I'm dating someone, I would want to make that person feel appreciated and special. Maybe I'd surprise him with coffee or lunch out of the blue that I would of course pay for.

Both men and women agree that the ideal first date would be going out for drinks. The second best option would be to go to dinner and coffee came in at the third best option for a first date.

I would say my ideal first date would probably be drinks or maybe even doing something like going miniature golfing or something along those lines. I think sometimes going out to dinner puts a lot of pressure on people and it's almost like an interview so I would say my ideal first date is something a little more casual like drinks, coffee or some sort of fun activity.

Who do you think should be paying when it comes to going on dates? And what would your ideal date be?
