If you get married too young, you'll end up in divorce; wait too long and you and spouse will be too old to still "grow" with each other, and, again, you'll end up in divorce. So what's that secret age that Americans are getting married at?

26.

Wait?! I'm 26! (Don't tell my boyfriend about this article.)

Across the United States, the average is now 26 years old, which is higher than in decades' past. If you go down South to Alabama or Mississippi, the average is lower, down around 23 years old.

So it may very a little bit, but it looks like people are waiting longer (on average) to get married these days than when our parents got hitched. Fear of commitment? Fear of divorce? Too picky? Not picky enough? I guess that would all depend on the person.

If you are walking down the aisle this year, know that age is just a number, average or not.
