You and I have been told for our entire lives that if we aren't drinking at least eight glasses of water each day, we're not doing our health or hydration any favors. We've also been told that one of the fastest ways to get back on track with being healthy is to drink water constantly. When I was pregnant, I drank so much water that I felt like I was drowning in it by the end of each day.

Water is super important for pregnant women to drink, so please don't use this bit of research as an excuse to not consume enough water if you're expecting a child, but for the rest of the world, I came across a study that debunks the whole idea that we absolutely have to drink eight glasses of water is each day. Actually, it says the whole thing is nonsense.

In a Harvard Health Letter update, researchers shared their discovery that the amount of water we need actually varies from day to day and situation to situation.

For instance, on days when you've been working out or when the weather is super hot and you've been sweating like nobody's business, you really should drink more water. On days when you're eating foods that are packed in water such as watermelon or soup, you really we don't need as much water.

And you know what? You're not just limited to drinking plain water.

"It's really about fluids in general. Doesn't necessarily have to be water," Dr. Sharmeela Saha, director of the dialysis center at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, told CBS News.

So how are we supposed to calculate the best we can how much water our body needs on any given day? Well, experts say when we're thirsty, drink until you're not thirsty anymore. Imagine that! Maybe getting healthy isn't as hard as we thought it would be.
