The United Way of Broome County is one of those great organizations that does more for the Greater Binghamton area than most people realize.

The United Way has a couple of events going on right now that will directly help people in the Southern Tier.

They are promoting summer reading with children from kindergarten through 5th grade with an event called "Day of Action." They are accepting book donations to distribute to local children.

If you would like to donate, here are the locations where you can drop off NEW books:

George F. Johnson: 1001 Park Street in Endicott

Vestal Library: 320 Vestal Parkway East in Vestal

Jack Sherman Toyota: 393 Court Street in Binghamton

United Way of Broome County: 101 South Jensen Road in Vestal

Oakdale Mall: in Johnson City

GHS Federal Credit Union: Main Office- 910 Front Street in Binghamton
All of the books donated will be given away to kids participating in summer programs at both Boys & Girls Club locations in Binghamton and Endicott and the Wilson Children's Center of Deposit.

They will wrap of their "Day of Action" by teaming up with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies game on Wednesday, June 21st. Tickets must be purchased in advance from the United Way at uwbroome.org or by calling 607-240-2000.

100% of the money raised from the ticket sales will go to programs and services locally.

Thank you in advance for helping out!
