There has been a large debate over the past few weeks on whether or not it is disrespectful to not stand for the National Anthem. It all started after NFL player Colin Kaepernick refused to stand during a preseason game as protest to what he says is "wrongdoings against African Americans and minorities in the United States." He has continued to sit, kneel, etc. during the national anthem.

One argument is that we should stand to show respect for those who fought for our country to be free; and the other argument is that those people fought so we had the choice to stand or not. I think not standing for the national anthem is similar to spiting on our flag. You're basically telling people that by not standing you don't give a s*** about this country, the struggle it went through or the people or battled for it.

I believe no one explained it better than Virginia Tech Hokies basketball coach Buzz Williams; "we did not earn those chairs." The amazing part about this all too is that he made this 5 months prior to the Kaepernick situation, yet it is relevant now more than ever.

It doesn't matter who you are, where you are in life, or how much money you have. All that matters is these men and women fought for us to have those privileges and we stand to show them respect, honor, and thanks!
