A trucker is okay but maybe a little sleep-deprived after his rig caught fire while he was napping in the cab at the Lounsberry Truck Stop in Tioga County.

Authorities say a mechanical issue with the truck started the fire at around 5:30 a.m. July 12.

The vehicle became totally engulfed in flames and was reduced to nothing more but a charred frame.

The driver was alerted by others at the truck stop and was able to quickly get out of his sleeper-cab.

Firefighters from Nichols and Owego were called to the scene.

Authorities say they knew of similar malfunctions being reported in other vehicles of the same model elsewhere in the nation.

There has been no word concerning further investigations by other agencies like the Transportation Safety board, OSHA or consumer groups.
