When you really set your mind to getting in shape, you want to do it right. And, that includes everything you eat and drink. But, it can get very expensive.

It's so much cheaper to eat bad than to eat healthy. But, in the long run eating healthy is the way to go. When I try to focus on getting healthy and in shape...which is a full-time job for me, I find myself eating those energy and protein bars a lot.

You almost need a part-time job just to support that habit. Well, maybe it's not necessary.

Tone up and save money. Athletes can get a similar post workout boost from an inexpensive bowl of cereal as from a sports drink. Researchers reached that conclusion by studying the effect of the cereal and drinks on cyclists and triathletes.

For refueling at home, "cereal and nonfat milk provide a less expensive whole food option as compared to sports drinks," say the investigators from the University of Texas at Austin. As a bonus, athletes also benefit from the easily digestible and quality protein found in milk.
