New York State Senator Fred Akshar has revealed on Twitter that he's engaged to a Broome County woman.

The 52nd District Republican tweeted Monday night that he asked the "ever beautiful and amazing Jessica Fiacco" and she said "YES!"

Akshar's tweet said he and Fiacco were in the Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada. The park is located northeast of Las Vegas.

Akshar wrote that he's "the luckiest man on earth" and he's "glad she said yes." There was no mention of wedding plans.

Dozens of people tweeted congratulatory messages to the couple. Among those wishing them well were Marc Molinaro, who was the Republican candidate for governor this year, and Broome County executive Jason Garnar.

There's been no formal announcement of the engagement from the senator's office.

Akshar's relationship with Fiacco, who also has been known as Jessica Williams, made news last summer.

In July, Gannett reported that Williams had been a member of Akshar's staff. She had been on the payroll as the senator's director of administration. She was reassigned to the Senate Republicans' central staff but continued to work in Binghamton.

An Akshar spokesman Tuesday said her employment status has not changed. What happens after this month when Democrats assume control of the Senate remains to be determined.
