Two Binghamton Streets to Remain Closed Indefinitely

While Court Street has reopened, two other Binghamton streets remain out of service because of damage caused by this week's flash flooding.

Mayor Richard David said Hiner Road and part of Fairview Avenue sustained severe damage following Tuesday night's heavy rain.

The affected area of Fairview Avenue is between Clapham Street and Pope's Ravine Road.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, the mayor said those two streets on the upper East Side near the Kirkwood town line had the most serious damage.

Several blocks of Court Street between Broad Avenue and Fairview Avenue reopened around 10:30 a.m. Thursday after workers finished clearing away water and mud.

In the town of Conklin, one lane of the Conklin Road bridge over Snake Creek now is open to traffic. Signals are to be installed to enable traffic to use the bridge, one direction at a time.

David Hamburg of the New York State Department of Transportation said there is a 10-ton weight limit on the bridge. Workers will be at the site to ensure that the weight limit is obeyed.
