A pair of abandoned buildings near the Goodwill Theatre in Johnson City will be torn down.

The organization acquired the properties at 55 and 59 Broad Street nearly three years ago using money from a state grant.

The Broome County Land Bank provided funds for environmental surveys and abatement work needed prior to the demolition.

Delta Engineering and Gorick Construction Company have donated services for the blight removal project.

The buildings are located adjacent to other properties owned by Goodwill Theatre Incorporated. They are just north of the recently-opened Binghamton University Pharmacy School building on Corliss Avenue.

Several decades ago, the building at 59 Broad Street housed a dry cleaning business.

A man who has lived in the neighborhood for more than 40 years said he was pleased the old structures were about to be removed.

After they are cleared, the properties will be used for parking.
