An initiative developed by the Union-Endicott School District has been recognized in a nationally-televised feature.

The Tiger Ventures program was featured in an NBC Nightly News report. The story was broadcast Saturday.

Union-Endicott students, teachers and administrators had been waiting months to see the story.

District superintendent Suzanne McLeod said the NBC crew visited the area last May to do the reporting for the feature piece. She said the network had tentatively scheduled the story two or three times but it wound up being delayed because of hard news.

McLeod said she had missed a last-minute email from NBC advising that the story was set to run Saturday evening. She had an opportunity to view the story online.

The superintendent said a friend from Massachusetts and her father in Florida called after they watched the story.

The NBC piece was entitled: "Tech Incubator at School Brings Hope to Birthplace of IBM." The story noted the challenges the region has been facing as Big Blue has pulled most of its operations out of Endicott.

The Union-Endicott initiative is described as "a high school fully integrated with a new venture incubator."  It's mission is to serve as a site to assist in the economic growth and sustainability for the area.
