Some call it collecting, others may see it as hoarding, but whatever you call it it’s not worth holding onto. Those toys you saved because you thought they might be worth something someday won’t be worth a penny.

The only thing you’re collecting is dusty, old items that are taking up room in your storage space.

So what are these “collectable” items we’re talking about? Mashable has created a list of pretty worthless items that you're probably hanging onto.

  1. Video Games - Gaming is always changing. You may have gotten that new sports game for your Xbox but by the time you get home to play it, there’s already a new version of Xbox out. Major waste of money! Even those Nintendo 64s from the 90’s are worth about as much as two pacts of gum. Old video games are valued at an average of only $3!
  2. Boomboxes - Remember those bulky stereo systems you had to carry around to hear your favorite jams? Now it’s right at your fingertips with your smartphone. These bad boys are valued at a mere $15 today.
  3. Palm Pilots - Sure, they were the beginning stages of the iPhone that kept you organized, but now all smartphones are equipped with calendars and apps for scheduling reminders. Palm pilots are typically valued at around $20.
  4. Hit Clips - Those small, plastic, 30 second music samples may have kept kids of the 90's entertained, but with today’s technology constantly changing, new generations would be bored in a matter of 5 seconds. Hit clips are valued at roughly $20. If you want to hear a 30 second clip of music check out the iTunes store, for free!
  5. Cassette Players - You know it’s time to get rid of them when you’re car no longer has a slot to play these. Unless you have one with a rare artist, they are not worth keeping. Again, you can find music on your smartphone, all in one spot. These old cassettes are valued at $25.

So why are these “antiques” not worth a mint? They can be found on sites such as eBay & Amazon. This means the items listed above are not rare therefore the value is very low. So unless they are a treasured childhood memory that you can’t bear to part with….get rid of them!
