Over the weekend, Binghamton hosted the Third Annual Binghamton Brew Fest at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena downtown. The cost to attend the event was $36. For me, that's a lot of money. That's actually a week's worth of groceries, give or take. While I love to drink, for one night that's a little too much for my wallet.

I really wanted to go to the Brew Fest, though, so my solution was to email the event's coordinator and ask to volunteer! I have done this many times in the past for other events. I have seen several concerts for free. I've gotten free dinners by volunteering. I have even gotten free beer just for taking some time out of my weekend to work at an event. The perks all depend on what you have to do, and who is hosting.

Over the summer, I volunteered to pour beer at the concerts at Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown. You can see the show for free, enjoy free drinks, camp for free after the event, and they even let you keep whatever tips you earn!

Some places treat their volunteers especially well. If you're low on funds, want to meet new people and love the area, then I would definitely recommend trying to volunteer at local events that happen every weekend in Binghamton.
