When was the last time you explored the shoes in your closet that have been sitting there collecting dust?  Chances are you have a pair or two or maybe a whole bunch of shoes that could benefit a Southern Tier animal shelter and be put to good use for needy people across the world.

Happy Tails No Kill Animal Shelter in Owego and Towanda is trying to raise needed funds by collecting shoes that will then be sent to people in 3rd world countries.  The goal is to collect 2500 PAIRS OF SHOES by July 15th.  As of this writing Happy Tails has collected 650 pairs of the 2500 needed.  If they reach their goal they will receive $1000 that they will use for their animal rescue efforts.

If you know of any churches or friends that are having garage or yard sales and have leftover shoes, please ask them to keep this shoe fundraiser in mind.  Shoes should be in good condition, meaning that the soles are intact, there are no holes and they still have life in them.

The shelter has a number of locations that make it convenient to drop off shoes in good condition by July 15th:

  • OwegoKitty Corner Antiques, 401-403 Main Street (Wednesday-Saturday from Noon-5pm), Aunt Bea's Furniture & Primitives on McMaster Street
  • Binghamton: A Frame Shoppe Custom Picture Framing, 320 Water Street
  • TowandaCharacter Cuts Salon, 15 Elm Street in Towanda and Sparkey's Family Restaurant (formerly Harkness), 1137 S Main St, Towanda

If it's not convenient to drop off the shoes, you may be able to make arrangements with Happy Tails to pick up your shoe donations; contact Claudia Goodenow at 570-396-7434 or e-mail goodenowclaudia@yahoo.com.

Let's help Happy Tails gather 2500 PAIRS OF SHOES by July 15th!  Let's make it happen!
