A public health emergency is in effect in New York State due to the severity of the flu season. Govenor Andew Cuomo made an executive order allowing pharmacists to administer flu shots to patients as between 6 months and 18 years instead of only 18 and older.

One of the easiest ways to avoid getting the flu is to wash your hands. But according to a new survey, 75% of adults don't wash their hands for long enough. Most people wash for zero to 15 seconds but you really need to scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. I remember being told to sing the happy birthday song while washing your hands to kill off all the germs.

The survey found 70% of people say they always wash their hands after they use the public bathroom, 29% say they do it sometimes and 1% say they never wash their hands after they use a public restroom. How come when I'm in the bathroom I always see those 1% walking out?

Bottom line is they are saying this is could be the worst flu season EVER, so take all precautions so hopefully you don't get it. Make sure to scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds!

What other tips do you have to avoid the flu?
