If you struggle to fall asleep at night, you know just how frustrating that can be. Bustle says that there are some things that happen to you when you don't get enough sleep, so you may want to find out what is preventing you from falling asleep!

  • Increased stress when you miss out on those precious hours of sleep. Sleep helps us to recover from the day before and prepare ourselves for the next day. Without enough of it, we're not ready to take on the day ahead and that will compound our stress the more and more we miss out on sleep!
  • Lowered immune system is a big issue for those who don't get enough sleep because it becomes a vicious circle of getting sick (and not being able to sleep because you're up all night sneezing and coughing) and staying sick longer because you're not able to get the sleep you need to recover!
  • Impaired driving can happen when you haven't had enough sleep, and it can be just as dangerous as driving while under the influence. Reaction time and alertness become seriously compromised if you miss a few hours of sleep the night before.

Being sleep deprived can hurt every other aspect of your life significantly, but it can be hard to force yourself to fall asleep when your mind is racing from the day you just had or with thoughts about what tomorrow will have in store for you.
