My dad grew up in Western New York in the town of Olean. The other day he wanted to take a drive to see his sister (my aunt) who still lives there.

We met up with some family and had lunch at a place that is famous for their 'beef on a weck'. Growing up I always knew about the 'beef on a weck' but never really thought much about it til recently.

What is a 'beef on a weck' you ask? It is a roast beef sandwich served on a kummelweck roll.

The roast beef is traditionally served rare, thin cut, with the top bun getting a dip au jus. It is also accompanied with horseradish, a dill pickle spear, and french fries.

The kummelweck roll gives the sandwich its name and a distinctive taste. A kummelweck is topped with kosher salt and caraway seeds.

This sandwich is primarily found in Western New York, like the spiedie is primarily found in the Binghamton area.

And, of course, it is delicious!
