Good News! Your Dog Really can Understand What You’re Saying

Dogs can, in fact, understand what humans say! Well, some of it. According to Time, a recent study done in Hungary revealed that dogs can understand what we say and how we say it.

For the study, dogs listened to their owners who spoke in a positive and neutral tone with a number of different commands. The dogs recognized each word as an individual command and when the words were said with a positive tone, the dogs listened better!

The study is the first of its kind to investigate how dogs’ brains process speech.

Now that we know dogs can understand us, what would they say if they could talk?! Here's my top things I think dogs would say if they could talk:

• Is that ottoman suede or leather? I'd better hump it to find out.
• Wait, I think I've met you before. But I'm going to bury my nose in your butt until I find out for sure
• For the last time: I'M A GOOD BOY!!! Please stop asking
• At least now I can defend myself when you blame me for cutting the cheese.
• Even *I* focus less on my junk than Anthony Weiner does.
• One of these days, I'm gonna do it. I'm finally going to catch my tail!
• Ha-ha! I made you clean up my poop!
